School and University drainage is often found in large areas across buildings, sidewalks, sport facilities and parking areas. Most of these areas are used by students and staff on a regular basis and require the use of ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) grates.
Some of the educational facilities that use surface water management solutions are:
- Colleges & Universities
- Campus sports facilities
- School playgrounds
Select grates that are ADA-compliant. Grate slot sizes should be kept to a minimum to protect high heels, canes, bicycle tires and wheelchairs, while still allowing efficient surface water removal.
Grate Security – ACO recommends that grates should be secured to prevent movement by traffic, which can cause damage to both product and pedestrians.
Several ACO product recommendations include:
Steel-edge, modular trench systems in 4” (100 mm), 8” (200 mm) & 12” (300 mm) internal widths
Heavy-duty iron edged, modular trench systems in 4” (100 mm), 8” (200 mm) & 12” (300 mm) internal widths
Shallow depth trench drain systems in 4” (100 mm), 8” (200 mm) & 23” (300 mm) internal widths
